Handmade Chests and Boxes

 

All of the chests and bxes shown here are made in a traditional manner using the same materials and many of the same tools as were used in the period they were originaly made. I saw much of the wood used in my furniture and forge all of my hardware such as hinges and latches. If you don't see what you are looking for feel free to contact us for something special. Keep in mind too that I have a lot of very nice and unusual wood if you are looking for something really out of the ordinary.


Sassafras Bible Box





This is a copy of of a Bible Box from the late 17th century. It is made from Sassafras with a Tulip Poplar bottom and hand carved in the same pattern as the original. The butterfly hinges are hand forged and all surfaces are hand planed including the moldings which were run with molding planes in the same manner as the original. The box measures 19 inches wide by 14 inches deep and a little over 8 inches tall. It is available for purchase and is priced at $395.00

Bible Box in Walnut with handcarved decoration on the front and both ends, handcut dovetails and handforged hinges. Box is about 20 inches wide by 14 deep and 7 inches tall. It is reproduced from an original that dates to the late 17th century.
